This is my games page. I’ll list the games I’m playing and my thoughts on them.
What I’m playing:
- Star Wars: The Old Republic - Got into the past two beta weekends…and I have to say Bioware has really put together a strong replacement for Star Wars Galaxies. I love the cinematic story telling and light/dark systems specifically. My favorite classes are Sith Inquisitor and Bounty Hunter. And yes I’ve already preordered and will be playing starting on the 20th of December.
- The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - This is my first game in the Elder Scrolls series, and I love it. It’s made by the same people as the current Fallout series, Bethesda, and it shows. Set in a different universe, but the gameplay seems very similar in a lot of respects. The game is EXTREMELY deep and I expect to be playing it for the foreseeable future.
- EVE Online - I’ve been a long time fan of this game. I initially got started way back in the beta for it, but found the learning curve too steep for me at the time. After about a year I got back into it and have been enjoying it off and on ever since. I started up again after I heard about some of the recent changes, and I have to say it has really grown into something I love to play. There’s just more to do than ever before, and I’ve only scratched the surface of the content in the game. Update 12/2/2011: I’ve taken a break from the game and I’m primarily just training right now. This is the result of leaving Null sec space. We decided as a corp to leave the null sec alliance we were in at the time as we thought we needed to grow a bit. Well it turns out that was a smart move as, after shortly leaving the alliance, it started getting attacked by a rival alliance and that eventually lead to the alliance folding in a spectacularly bad manner. I’ll just say it didn’t surprise me, as I was expecting it to happen sooner or later. Well our plans to grow fell flat, because as I expected, my (and others) enthusiasm for the game since leaving null sec has died quite a bit. I’ll resume at some point in the future, but for now I and several others in our corp are taking a little break from the game.
- Amnesia: The Dark Descent – I heard numerous good things about things about this little survival horror game. What finally convinced me to pick it up on Steam was Yahtzee over at No Punctuation putting it on his Top 5 list for 2010. That said, I have not been disappointed. Not many games setup their atmosphere so well. It’s a unique game in that you can’t fight the monsters you encounter. They tell you that upfront, and it lays the groundwork for the atmosphere you encounter later. It’s not for the easily scared, as you can tell from the numerous videos out there about this game. Within the first 10 minutes of playing the game I had chills tingling my spine. I have been progressing slowly so far as my game time has been limited, but I will play through it eventually. I’m just too intrigued not to.
- Guild Wars – I got started shortly after the game launched and have been playing it off and on ever since. It’s nice that I don’t have to pay a sub to be able to play whenever I want. I love the story lines built into the games and the world they have created. I can’t wait for more.
- Star Trek Online – I’m an avid Star Trek fan, so the lull in Star Trek as a result of having no TV series has me eager for more. I picked this up last year with a lifetime subscription, to make sure I didn’t have to worry about a subscription fee. I haven’t been playing it as much as I want, but I like to know it’s always there like with Guild Wars.
- L.A. Noire - I picked this up a few weeks ago (mid October 2011) and have played a little bit. I like it, as it’s quite different from the normal stuff from Rockstar. Some parts remind me of the GTA series, but others are just completely different from anything else out there. When I get the time or I get bored with the above, I’ll continue playing it.
- Rage - Picked this up along with L.A. Noire, but haven’t touched it yet. Someday I’ll have the time.
Played recently but finished:
- None
What I’m waiting for:
- Guild Wars 2 – I have been following developments on it since it was announced. I am very excited for it’s eventual release.
- GTA V - The world looks like it has dramatically been improved over it’s successors based on the trailer. I have always enjoyed this series since GTA III, so I’m definitely looking forward to this one.
