So this is my TV and Moveis page, as I promised on my About page. What you’ll find here is the current status of what I watch and my thoughts on them.
TV I’m Watching:
- While these shows listed below still interest me, my time to watch TV has nose-dived, so I’ve been limiting myself to mainly The Walking Dead, Burn Notice, and Breaking Bad. Other shows I watch in bulk after a few weeks of not watching (meaning I’ll sit down and watch several in a row to get caught up): Fringe and Doctor Who. The rest I’ll get around to getting caught up some day.
- Breaking Bad (AMC) - Thanks to Netflix for hosting the past seasons I’ve been getting caught up on this fine show. A number of netcasts I watch have mentioned this over and over as an excellent show, and I have to agree. I can’t name something specific about this show, it’s just very intriguing to watch. I’m a couple of episodes into Season 4 now and can’t wait to get fully caught up so I’m ready for Season 5.
- Burn Notice (USA) – Great show. Nice amount of wit. Great action. Couldn’t ask for more in a spy action drama.
- Chuck (NBC) – Being a computer geek, this caught my attention early for obvious reasons. My love for the show has changed though. As Chuck has taken on more of a role of a spy rather than a geek, I’ve found I don’t run to watch this quite so quickly. I still watch, but with less enthusiasm. It offers probably a more fantasy based version of the spy life. Bit more like James Bond.
- Covert Affairs (USA) – Yeah another spy drama. I have to admit I’m hooked on them. I enjoy this one. It’s a little bit different. Perhaps a bit more realistic than the others. It just offers a different take on the whole spy thing.
- Doctor Who (BBC) – This is just sci-fi cheese., and I love it because of that. I loved David Tennant as the Doctor, but Matt Smith is a fine replacement, and brings a unique take on the role that I enjoy.
- Eureka (Syfy) – A bit of sci-fi cheese which is a bit more realistic which I enjoy. With my dad working for a national accelerator (one which I used to work for as well, though neither of us are physicists), it occasionally touches on areas of science I actually know a bit about.
- Family Guy (FOX) – Just yucks and crude humor which I love. It’s gotten a bit more political than I like recently, but there have been hints of that throughout, so I just dismiss it.
- Fringe (FOX) – I’m watching this religiously now. I initially quit watching mid-way through the first season. The first season was held together by the humor and some intriguing stories. Now they’re deep into an excellent sci-fi story which I am thoroughly enjoying.
- Futurama (Comedy Central) – Scifi yucks. I didn’t get into it until after it was initially cancelled and now I watch it every night as I’m laying in bed getting ready to go to sleep. Trying to catch up on all the episodes I missed. It doesn’t put me to sleep (far from it), but a few yucks before heading into Dreamland is a good way to go to sleep.
- House (FOX) – I love House as a character. I started watching this in season 4 or so and have been watching it steady ever since.
- Mythbusters (Discovery) – I classify this as science cheese. I touches on quite a few areas of science, though it glosses over it quite frequently. Doesn’t perfectly follow the scientific method, but then again it’s entertainment, and it does that well. What I do like is that when they get something wrong they admit it, and try it again. They listen to their viewers and I enjoy it thoroughly.
- Royal Pains (USA) – Medical Drama with a different take. Fun to watch and I like the characters.
- Sanctuary (Syfy) – Sci-fi/Fantasy…and goes along the same lines as Stargate SG-1 did and explores mythology. I do enjoy it though I don’t watch it quite so enthusiastically as I do for other shows. One thing I’ve never truly been comfortable with is Amanda Tapping’s role. Being an avid Stargate Watcher for the last 7 seasons of SG-1 as well as all 5 seasons of Atlantis, her role as Carter is burned into my brain. So it’s hard for me to separate that character from her character on Sanctuary.
- The Office (NBC) – Amusing show. Not absolutely laugh out loud funny, but it has quite a few hilarious moments.
- The Walking Dead (AMC) – Love it so far. I started reading the comic via my iPhone before it started airing, and so far I’m up to issue 30 and addicted to the story. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the show. Meryl for Governor! Update after the mid-season break episode (12.2.2011): While the second season has been dragging quite a bit due to some unresolved issues, I feel they really tied it off with a nice bow to end the first half of season 2. A major story arc is finally laid to rest (literally) and we see Shane’s relationship with Rick reaching a boiling point. I expect that he’ll meet his maker soon after a nasty confrontation with Rick. I think they took a little longer to develop his character than people were expecting, but I also believe they developed it more than they did in the comic. They provided more backstory and insight into the character, and I believe this was all done for the better.
- Warehouse 13 (Syfy) – Like Santuary it explores mythology, but has a bit more of a science bend to it. I enjoy it quite a bit, and I love the mystery of the Warehouse and the characters involved with it.
- White Collar (USA) – fun crime drama. The overarching story seems like it has been crawling at a snail’s pace though.
Movies I’ve seen recently:
- Nothing really “recent” right now.
- Tron: Legacy - Loved it. It could have been better but I did enjoy it. I saw it in IMAX 3D. You can check out the review I posted here.
Movies I plan to see:
